Egyptian Football Association contacts European federations over Al Ahly v Zamalek referee team

The Egyptian Football Association has contacted several European federations about appointing a foreign refereeing team for the upcoming Egyptian Premier League match between Al Ahly and Zamalek.

The Cairo rivals are due to meet on Sunday, 11 October, in the sixth round of the competition.

A source from the Egyptian Football Association told FilGoal.com: “The Referees Committee has contacted several European federations to bring in a foreign refereeing team for the upcoming Al Ahly and Zamalek match. Essam Abdel Fattah prefers the German and French schools because of their extensive experience.”

Essam Abdel Fattah is understood to favour referees from Germany and France as the association considers options for the fixture.

FilGoal.com previously reported that the Egyptian Football Association received a letter from the Clubs Association on the evening of 1 September concerning Al Ahly’s request for foreign officials for their matches against Zamalek and Pyramids.

Al Ahly will face Zamalek in the sixth round on Sunday, 11 October, before meeting Pyramids in the ninth round on 23 November.

The league will then be suspended for the international break, during which the Egypt national team will play three matches against Angola, South Sudan and South Africa.

Pyramids currently lead the league with 15 points. Zamalek are second and Al Ahly third, with both clubs on 13 points.
