The Egyptian Football Association has confirmed the match officials for Thursday’s highly anticipated Egyptian Cup final between Zamalek and Pyramids at Cairo International Stadium.
Mahmoud Bassiouni will lead the officiating team, marking another high-stakes assignment for the experienced referee, who previously took charge of the tense Zamalek-Al Ahly league fixture. Bassiouni’s appointment follows Al Ahly’s controversial withdrawal from that match over the absence of foreign referees.
Joining him on the pitch will be assistant referees Sami Helhel and Youssef El Basati, with Mohamed Youssef named as fourth official. The VAR duties will be handled by Hossam Azab, supported by Ahmed Tawfiq Talab and Wael Farhan.
The EFA had earlier stated that no foreign referees would be brought in, as neither Zamalek nor Pyramids requested them. However, Zamalek did submit a formal objection to four specific referees Amin Omar, Mohamed El-Sabahy, Tarek Magdy and Mahmoud El-Banna, being appointed to the match.
Respecting this request, the EFA excluded the named referees and selected Bassiouni instead, hoping for a fair and balanced contest on Cup final night.
