Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria considered for Kaizer Chiefs amidst search for new leadership

The Egyptian Football Association has officially closed its financial dispute with former national team coach Rui Vitoria, reaching an amicable settlement at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne.

The Portuguese coach had filed a formal complaint demanding the remainder of his contract, which was originally set to run until June 2026.

Vitoria led Egypt from April 2022 until February 2024, when he was dismissed after the Pharaohs crashed out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, losing to DR Congo on penalties in the last 16. The early termination of his deal triggered a legal standoff, with the case eventually taken to CAS before Tuesday’s agreement finally ended the standoff.

In its statement, the EFA confirmed that both parties had reached a mutually satisfactory understanding at CAS and highlighted the respectful tone of the negotiations.

The federation added that “both sides express their mutual thanks for the keenness and commitment to reach this agreement” and praised Vitoria for his “dedication and competence” during his time in charge of Egypt.

Meanwhile, the national team under new coach Hossam Hassan is now fully focused on preparing for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, which begins on Sunday in Morocco.
