Zamalek head coach Moatamed Gamal has moved quickly to downplay talk of an early Egyptian Premier League triumph, insisting the title race remains open despite his side opening a five-point gap at the top.

The Cairo giants edged Pyramids FC 1-0 in a tightly contested clash on Thursday, with Brazilian winger Juan Bezerra striking late to secure all three points.

The result lifted Zamalek to 49 points, five ahead of both Pyramids and Al Ahly, with four matches still to play.

Speaking after the game, Gamal stressed that nothing has been decided.

“I knew the Pyramids match would be difficult,” he said. “The win brings Zamalek a step closer to the title, but I refuse any notion that the league title has already been decided.”

With momentum building but pressure still high, the coach turned attention to the immediate challenge ahead — a meeting with ENPPI on Monday in the fourth round of the Championship Group.

“We have a tough match against ENPPI in three days. We will focus on the next game before thinking about the summit clash,” he added.

Gamal also praised his squad’s resilience and acknowledged the backing of supporters who have played a key role during the run-in.

“I thank the players for their efforts, and I cannot find enough words to thank the supporters. We are working to make them happy and to win the league title,” he said.

He further highlighted the team’s ability to manage pressure during a crucial phase of the season, noting their focus on balancing celebration with preparation.

“The team can separate the joy of winning from the demands of upcoming matches,” he explained.

On the Pyramids victory, Gamal said he approached the contest in stages, prioritising control and discipline, while reiterating respect for all contenders in the title race.

“We respect all teams competing in the Championship Group,” he said.

The coach also provided an injury update, revealing that midfielder Mahmoud Bentayg is struggling with a groin problem and will be assessed before the ENPPI fixture.

Zamalek now face a decisive stretch of the season with matches against ENPPI, Al Ahly, Smouha, and Ceramica Cleopatra still to come as they chase the league crown.
