Egypt Under-17s begin Swiss tournament camp on road to World Cup

Egypt’s Under-17 side, made up of players born in 2009, have begun their training camp ahead of the International Friendship Tournament in Switzerland and preparations for next year’s Under-17 World Cup in Qatar.

The squad, coached by Hussein Abdel Latif, held its opening session at one of the pitches at the National Teams Complex in 6th of October City.

The Swiss tournament will take place from 24 September to 3 October. Egypt are scheduled to play four matches, including games against Colombia, South Korea and England, as well as another fixture in the competition’s final stage.

A total of 29 players attended the first day of the camp. They were watched by Egyptian Football Association board member Walid Darwish, who oversees the team, fellow board member Mohamed Abu Hussein and the association’s technical director Shawky Gharib.

The officials followed the training session and encouraged the players as they begin competing for places in the squad that will represent Egypt in their upcoming fixtures.

Before training started, head coach Hussein Abdel Latif urged the players to remain focused and work hard if they are to earn a place in the team for the next matches. Those games form part of Egypt’s preparations for the Under-17 World Cup in Qatar in November.

The selected players are:

Goalkeepers: Malek Amr (Zamalek), Mohamed Obeid (Al Ahly), Aser Abdo (Al Masry) and Abdel Aziz Mahmoud (Pharco).

Defenders: Adam Youssef (Al Ahly), Mohamed El-Sayed “El Diesel” (Al Ahly), Ezzat Abdel Moaz (Zamalek), Mohamed Sabry (Zamalek), Ziad Ahmed (Wadi Degla), Abdullah Amr (ENPPI), Yassin Tamer (El Mokawloon), Adel Alaa (Ghazl El Mahalla), Amir Hassan (Nijmegen), Yahya Tarek (Al Qadsiah).

Midfielders: Ahmed Safwat (Zamalek), Omar Abdel Rahim (Al Ahly), Seif Karim (Al Ahly), Youssef Abdullah (Al Ahly), Yahya Riyad (Al Ahly), Mohamed Gamal (ENPPI), Ziad El-Degwi (ENPPI), Daniel Tamer (ZED FC), Ahmed Bashir (Ceramica Cleopatra), Mohamed Nour (SoCal Red Liverpool), Anas Henidy (LASK Linz), Fathy Soliman (Petrojet), Mohamed Zakaria (Smouha), Mohand Magdy (ENPPI), Mahmoud Alaa (Petrojet), Ahmed Ragab El-Shahat (ZED FC) and Omar Fouda (Al Nasr).

Forwards: Abdel Aziz Khaled (Al Ahly), Khaled Mahmoud (Al Ahly), Adham Haseeb (Zamalek), Khaled Mokhtar (ZED FC), Moaz Abu El-Fotouh (Ceramica Cleopatra) and Amir Abu El-Ezz (Monza).

Egypt’s youth team finished third at the Africa tournament held in Morocco in June.

The side are now building towards the Under-17 World Cup, which will be staged in Qatar from 19 November to 13 December 2026.

Egypt have been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Qatar, Namaa and Greece. The Swiss tournament will provide the team with an opportunity to test themselves against international opposition before the World Cup preparations intensify.
