Egypt to decide Mohamed Salah and Mohamed Abdelmonem availability after Cairo return

The Egyptian Football Association will decide whether Mohamed Salah and Mohamed Abdelmonem join the national team camp after the squad returns to Cairo, vice-president Khaled El-Dirndaly has said.

Egypt’s delegation is expected back in the capital on Wednesday before a friendly against South Africa on 4 October at Cairo International Stadium.

Speaking to Sada El Balad, El-Dirndaly said the players had shown their determination to win before their latest match.

“I saw determination from the players to win before the game, and that was clear during the match,” he said. “One of the positives was seeing Omar Marmoush and Hamza Abdelkarim score.”

He added: “We will discuss the presence of Mohamed Salah and Mohamed Abdelmonem in the Egypt camp after returning to Cairo.”

Salah did not travel to South Sudan because the match was being played on an artificial surface. Abdelmonem, meanwhile, was not involved in Egypt’s 5-0 victory.

El-Dirndaly also said the host venue for the Egyptian Super Cup had not yet been confirmed.

“So far, the identity of the country hosting the Egyptian Super Cup has not been decided,” he said.

The Egyptian Football Association will also consider candidates for the Egypt Olympic team’s coaching staff at its next board meeting.

“At the next board meeting, we will discuss the coaching teams being considered to take charge of the Egypt Olympic team,” El-Dirndaly said.

Egypt will host the finals of the Africa Under-23 tournament next year. The competition will serve as a qualifying event for the football tournament at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
