Egypt star Mohammed Salah misses penalty as Liverpool fall to Crystal Palace in Community Shield
Egyptian international Mohammed Salah struggled in the penalty shootout as Liverpool succumbed to defeat in the Community Shield on Sunday.
Salah, who extended his stay until 2027 started and played full throttle of the match, held at the Wembley Stadium in London.
Hugo Ekitike broke the deadlock with a precise strike after an assist from Florian Wirtz, just four minutes into the match.
However, Crystal Palace responded swiftly, leveling the score as Jean-Philippe Mateta confidently converted a penalty awarded for a Van Dijk foul.
In the 21st-minute, Frimpong rose to the occasion for Liverpool, scoring a brilliant goal to put his side in front again. He received the ball on the right wing, beat his defender, and delivered a sublime chip over Dean Henderson.
After the halftime break, Crystal Palace pulled parity through Senegal international Ismaila Sarr as the game ended in a stalemate in regular time.
However, it was Crystal Palace, who prevailed in the penalty shootout, defeating Liverpool 3-2 to lift the trophy.
Salah stepped up to take the first penalty but blazed his effort over the bar. The true hero was once again Dean Henderson, who denied both Mac Allister and Elliott as Palace sealed a historic achievement for the London club.
