Egypt return to Cairo after five-goal South Sudan win

Egypt’s national team have returned to Cairo from South Sudan after opening their African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 5-0 victory.

The result came in the second round of the qualifiers and moved Egypt to four points in their group, which they now lead.

The Pharaohs scored five times against South Sudan, with Omar Marmoush netting twice. Mostafa Abdel Raouf “Zico”, Ibrahim Adel and Hamza Abdel Karim also found the net.

The Egypt squad left South Sudan at 13:00 Cairo time and completed a five-hour journey before arriving in the capital.

The technical staff have given the players Wednesday off following their return, according to a statement from the Egyptian Football Association.

The team will regroup at midday on Thursday to begin preparations for a friendly against South Africa.

South Africa will visit Egypt on Sunday, with kick-off scheduled for 21:00 at Cairo International Stadium.
