The Egyptian national football team has been forced to make a strategic adjustment following the injury of key player Ahmed Fatouh. In a decisive move, head coach Hossam Hassan has recalled Al Ahly Cairo’s right-back, Omar Kamel, to strengthen the squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Burkina Faso and Guinea Bissau.

The setback occurred on Monday, June 3, 2024, when it was confirmed that Ahmed Fatouh would be unable to participate in the crucial matches due to an ankle injury sustained during Sunday’s training session.

The Zamalek full-back’s absence comes as a significant blow to the Pharaohs’ lineup as they prepare for their matches on June 6 and June 10.

Fatouh’s injury compounds the team’s defensive challenges, with Mohamed Hamdi, the Pyramids’ left-back, also unavailable.

Hamdi is serving a suspension after receiving a red card in Egypt’s last official game against the Democratic Republic of Congo during the 2023 African Cup of Nations.

In response to these challenges, the Egyptian Football Federation has confirmed the inclusion of Omar Kamel for the upcoming fixtures.

The 30-year-old defender, who has made 21 appearances and scored one goal for the national team, was notably absent from the March gathering, the first under new coach Hossam Hassan.

Omar Kamel’s return to the national squad comes after a noteworthy season with Al Ahly Cairo.

Having transferred from Modern Future this winter, Kamel has been in impressive form, scoring five goals and providing three assists in 20 matches across all competitions.

His experience and recent performance make him a valuable addition to the national team as they navigate these pivotal qualifiers.

Coach Hossam Hassan’s decision to bring Kamel back into the fold underscores the strategic importance of these upcoming matches

. The Pharaohs are keen to secure their place in the 2026 World Cup, and the recall of a seasoned player like Omar Kamel could be a decisive factor in their success.

As the team prepares to face Burkina Faso and Guinea Bissau, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how these changes impact Egypt’s performance.

The anticipation is high, and the stakes are even higher, as the Pharaohs aim to demonstrate their resilience and tactical prowess on the road to the World Cup.
