Egypt name Ali Mahmoud in squad for first time as Abdel Aziz Al Balouty replaces injured El Shenawy

Egypt manager Hossam Hassan has named Al Ahly midfielder Ali Mahmoud in his squad for the September international window, while Abdel Aziz Al Balouty has been recalled to replace the injured Mohamed El Shenawy.

The international period runs from 21 September to 6 October. Egypt will face Angola and South Sudan in 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying before playing a friendly against South Africa.

Mahmoud has received his first call-up to the senior national team. Al Balouty returns after El Shenawy was ruled out through injury.

Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet and Yasser Ibrahim are also unavailable because of injury.

Egypt are in Group Two of the African qualifiers alongside Angola, South Sudan and Malawi. They will host Angola at Cairo International Stadium on Friday, 25 September.

Hassan’s side will then travel to face South Sudan on 29 September at 15:00 Cairo time, before meeting South Africa in a friendly on 4 October.

The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from 19 June to 17 July 2027.
