Egypt midfielder Sam Morsy joins Blackburn Rovers on one-year deal

Egyptian midfielder Sam Morsy has joined Blackburn Rovers on a one-year contract, completing his return to English football during the 2026 summer transfer window.

The experienced 34-year-old had been without a club after leaving Bristol City at the end of last season, but has now secured a new challenge with Blackburn ahead of the 2026/27 Championship campaign.

Blackburn Rovers officially confirmed the signing on Monday, announcing that Morsy has agreed to a contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2027.

The move gives Blackburn an experienced midfielder with an extensive career in English football, having made almost 600 professional appearances during his career.

The Championship side believe Morsy’s experience and leadership qualities will be valuable additions to the squad as they prepare for another demanding season.

Blackburn highlighted the Egyptian international’s competitiveness, leadership and understanding of the Championship, where he has spent a significant portion of his career.

“Sam Morsy is known for his determination and will to win, as well as his ability to control the tempo of matches in midfield,” Blackburn said in their official statement.

The club also praised his footballing intelligence and ability to provide stability in the centre of the pitch, qualities that are expected to strengthen their midfield options.

Morsy’s arrival comes at an important stage of Blackburn’s preparations, with the club set to begin their new Championship campaign next Friday against Wolverhampton.

The experienced midfielder will now look to settle quickly into his new surroundings and use his leadership and experience to make an immediate contribution to Blackburn’s ambitions for the 2026/27 season.
