Egypt midfielder Mohamed Elneny scores to inspire Al Jazira’s comeback draw
Egyptian international Mohamed Elneny was on the scoresheet as Al Jazira fought back to earn a hard-fought result against Ajman Club in their UAE Pro League clash on Tuesday evening.
The former Arsenal midfielder played a key role in a tense encounter during the 24th round of the league, with Al Jazira showing resilience after falling behind early in the match.
Ajman opened the scoring in the 31st minute through Victor Henrique Santos, putting the hosts under pressure and forcing Al Jazira to chase the game. Despite dominating spells of possession, the visitors struggled to break down a disciplined Ajman defence for much of the first half.
However, just before the break, Elneny delivered a crucial response. In the fifth minute of first-half stoppage time (45+5), the experienced midfielder reacted quickest inside the penalty area following a corner kick, meeting the loose ball with a powerful finish that flew into the net to restore parity.
The goal not only brought Al Jazira level but also shifted momentum heading into the second half, underlining Elneny’s importance to the team with his leadership and timely interventions in key moments.
Before the match, Al Jazira sat third in the UAE Pro League standings with 40 points, continuing their push at the top end of the table, while Ajman occupied seventh place with 27 points, aiming to consolidate a solid mid-table position.
Elneny’s equaliser ensured Al Jazira left the contest with something to show for their efforts, as they continue their pursuit of consistency in a tightly contested league campaign.
