Egypt midfielder Akram Tawfik leaves Al-Shamal after year in Qatar

Egypt midfielder Akram Tawfik has left Al-Shamal SC and is now without a club after completing his spell in Qatar.

The 28-year-old central midfielder moved away from the Stars League side on 12 August 2026, bringing an end to his time with Al-Shamal. He joined the club from Egyptian champions Al Ahly in July 2025.

Tawfik made 18 appearances in the Stars League during his time at Al-Shamal and provided two assists. He also featured in the QSL Cup, Amir Cup and Club World Cup, giving him experience across domestic and international competitions during his season in Qatar.

Before moving to Al-Shamal, Tawfik established himself at Al Ahly, where he spent the majority of his senior career. He originally joined the club’s under-21 side from Enppi in August 2016 before progressing into the first team two years later.

His honours with Al Ahly include six Egyptian league titles, three CAF Champions League victories and three Egyptian Cup successes. He also won the CAF Super Cup in the 2021-22 season and the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup in 2024-25.

Tawfik’s most recent title with Al Ahly came in the 2024-25 Egyptian league campaign, before he departed for Al-Shamal. His previous club career also included loan spells with El Gouna in 2019 and 2020, after which he returned to Al Ahly.

At international level, Tawfik was part of the Egypt side that finished runners-up at the 2021-22 Africa Cup of Nations. He also helped Egypt Under-23s win the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations in 2019.

Born in Mansoura, Tawfik stands 1.83m tall and is right-footed. He has recorded 142 Egyptian Premier League appearances, along with 35 appearances in the CAF Champions League, across his career.

Tawfik’s departure leaves his next club undisclosed, with the midfielder now available after ending his association with Al-Shamal.
