Egypt legend Mido urges Al Ahly to renew Hussein El Shahat’s contract, rates him over Zizo
Former Zamalek player and coach Ahmed Hossam Mido has called on Al Ahly to prioritize the contract renewal of veteran winger Hussein El Shahat, describing him as one of the club’s most important players in recent years.
Speaking on the “Here is the World Cup” programme on Al-Nahar TV, Mido praised El Shahat’s influence both on and off the pitch, highlighting the player’s experience and contribution to the club’s sustained success.
“Hussein El Shahat is one of the most important players in the ranks of Al Ahly in recent years,” Mido said.
According to Mido, El Shahat’s value extends beyond his performances on matchdays, with the winger playing a key leadership role within the squad.
The former Egypt international noted that the experienced attacker has been instrumental in several major triumphs enjoyed by Al Ahly and continues to provide an important presence in the dressing room.
“El Shahat has great experience within Al Ahly and played an influential role in many of the championships and achievements that the team has achieved, which makes him an important element inside the dressing room and on the field,” he explained.
Mido believes Al Ahly should move quickly to secure the future of the player, arguing that his experience, consistency and ability to perform under pressure make him a valuable asset for the club.
“Al Ahly must take action to finalize the player’s contract renewal, especially since he represents a great technical asset to the team thanks to his experience and ability to handle big matches and fan pressure,” Mido added.
In one of the most eye-catching parts of his comments, Mido compared El Shahat with fellow Egyptian star Ahmed Sayed Zizo, claiming the Al Ahly winger currently holds greater importance within the Red Devils’ setup.
The former Zamalek coach argued that El Shahat’s contributions over the past year have had a more significant impact on Al Ahly’s performances and achievements.
Mido stated that, in his view, Hussein El Shahat is a better player and more important to Al Ahly than Zizo, citing the winger’s decisive displays, experience and continued influence in key matches.
His remarks are likely to spark debate among Egyptian football fans, particularly given Zizo’s status as one of the country’s most prominent attacking talents. However, Mido remains convinced that El Shahat’s importance to Al Ahly’s success makes his contract renewal a matter the club should address as soon as possible.
