Mido takes swipe at Al Ahly

Former Zamalek and Egypt national team star Ahmed Hossam Mido has criticised Al Ahly’s decision to suspend players’ financial dues following their disappointing 3-3 draw against Al Qanah in the Egyptian Premier League.

The Egyptian giants dropped points in the seventh round of the competition after being held to a high-scoring draw, prompting the club to take disciplinary action against the players over their recent performances.

Reacting to the decision, Mido questioned the fairness of targeting the players while leaving the technical staff untouched, arguing that responsibility for the team’s struggles should be shared.

“Al-Ahly decided to suspend the players’ dues! A punishment that doesn’t exist anywhere in the world except in Egypt!” Mido wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

He further challenged the club’s decision to focus on the players, insisting that the coaching staff should also be held accountable for the team’s performances.

“The question is why aren’t the technical staff’s dues being suspended? They share responsibility with the players for the poor level that Al-Ahly has shown in most of its matches since the beginning of the season!” he added.

Mido’s comments come as Al Ahly look to regain consistency following a series of unconvincing performances in the league.

The club subsequently announced increased financial penalties for the players following the draw against Al Qanah, underlining the pressure on the squad to improve its results.

Despite the setback, Al Ahly remain second in the Egyptian Premier League standings with 17 points, while Al Qanah occupy 11th place with eight points.

The Cairo-based club will now be expected to respond on the pitch as scrutiny intensifies over the performances of both the players and the technical staff.
