Legendary former Egypt captain Ahmed Hassan has hailed the organisation and rising standards of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), calling the tournament “top-notch” as Africa’s premier football event gains momentum following the conclusion of Match Day 1 in Morocco.
A four-time AFCON winner, Hassan is in Morocco serving as one of CAF’s official ambassadors, bringing his insight and experience to a competition he once helped dominate with the Pharaohs.
“The organisation has been excellent,” Hassan told CAFOnline.
“Our Moroccan brothers have done a fantastic job. From a technical perspective, the level of play is increasing with every match, and you can see teams growing stronger on the pitch. Overall, everything has been going very well.”
Hassan, widely regarded as one of African football’s greatest players, was instrumental in Egypt’s historic AFCON hat-trick, winning the tournament in 2006, 2008, and 2010.
Meanwhile, the second round of the group games will kick off today.
