🇪🇬 Al Ahly to Honor Issa Hayatou During CAF Cup Final
Egyptian giants Al Ahly SC plan to honor Issa Hayatou, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), during the CAF Confederation Cup final second leg against Séwé Sport of Ivory Coast, according to StarAfrica.
The tribute, set to take place in Cairo, is both a show of respect for Hayatou’s long-standing leadership and a diplomatic gesture—especially as Egypt is a candidate to host the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Issa Hayatou, who has recently faced a difficult period following Morocco’s withdrawal from hosting the 2015 AFCON, will likely view this recognition as a timely boost. The 2015 tournament was ultimately salvaged thanks to Equatorial Guinea’s late agreement to host.
🎖️ With this move, Al Ahly is not only honoring African football’s top figure but also subtly strengthening Egypt’s bid to return as a major AFCON host.
