Egypt finish fifth at Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games and top Arab medal table

Egypt completed their participation in the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games in Italy in fifth place overall and as the highest-ranked Arab nation, winning 58 medals before the final day’s events concluded.

The Egyptian delegation collected 23 gold medals, 16 silver and 19 bronze. Only Italy, Turkiye, Greece and France finished above Egypt in the overall standings, which are determined by the number of gold medals won.

Egypt’s total was seven medals better than their performance at the Oran 2022 Mediterranean Games in Algeria, where they won 51 medals – 13 gold, 15 silver and 23 bronze – and finished sixth overall.

Finswimming produced Egypt’s biggest medal haul in a single sport, with 12 medals: four gold, four silver and four bronze.

Tarek Hassan won gold in the men’s 100m mono and 50m underwater events, while Mehab Ehab triumphed in the 400m mono. Ahmed Hisham Radwan claimed gold in the 200m bi-fins.

Salma Rabie Raslan won silver in the 50m bi-fins, Mariam Mohamed Helmy Hegab took silver in the 50m underwater, Nada Magdy Hegres earned silver in the 400m mono and Ahmed Awad won silver in the 200m mono.

Bronze medals went to Ahmed Hisham Radwan in the 100m bi-fins and Mehab Ehab in the 200m mono. Egypt also finished third in the mixed 4x100m mono relay, represented by Tarek Hassan, Renad Tamer, Yassin Farhat and Mariam Mohamed Helmy, and in the mixed 4x50m bi-fins relay, featuring Ahmed Hisham Radwan, Seif Khaled, Salma Rabie Raslan and Mariam Helmy Hegab.

Weightlifting and wrestling

Weightlifting contributed 10 medals, including seven golds, two silvers and one bronze.

Sara Samir won both the snatch and clean and jerk titles in the 77kg category. Abdelrahman Younes also claimed two gold medals, in the snatch and clean and jerk in the 85kg division.

Rofeida Fathy won the clean and jerk and took silver in the snatch in the 69kg category. Nour El-Din Zaki won the 65kg snatch and claimed silver in the clean and jerk. Karim Kahla secured gold in the jerk and bronze in the snatch in the 95kg division.

Egyptian wrestlers won seven medals – two gold, two silver and three bronze.

Mohamed Hassan won the 67kg gold, while Samar Hamza took gold in the 76kg category. Mahmoud Farag won silver in the 60kg division and Abdelrahman Haitham took silver in the 125kg event.

Bronze medals went to Mostafa Hussein in the 77kg category, Shehab El-Din Abdel Raouf in the 65kg division and Mawadda Badawy in the 62kg event.

Karate, fencing and table tennis

Egypt’s karate team finished with five medals: three gold and two bronze.

Feryal Ashraf won the 68kg title, Rahma Taleb took gold in the 61kg category and Taha Tarek triumphed in the over-84kg division. Youssef Badawy won bronze in the under-84kg event, while Reem Ahmed Ramzy took bronze in the 50kg category.

Fencing also produced five medals, including two gold, two silver and one bronze. Mohamed El-Sayed won the epee title and Mohamed Hamza took gold in the foil. Youssef Shaml claimed silver in the epee, Sara Amr Hosny won silver in the foil and Abdelrahman Taleb took bronze in the foil.

Egypt won five table tennis medals – two gold and three silver.

The women’s team, made up of Hana Goda, Dina Meshref, Mariam Alhodaby and Farah Abdelaziz, won gold. The men’s team of Omar Assar, Youssef Abdelaziz, Omar Badr and Badr Mostafa took silver.

Assar and Hana Goda won silver in the mixed doubles. Goda also claimed gold in the women’s singles, while Youssef Abdelaziz won silver in the men’s singles.

Judo, gymnastics and swimming

Egyptian judoka won four medals: one gold, one silver and two bronze.

Omar El-Ramly secured gold in the under-100kg category. Abdelrahman Abdelghany took silver in the 81kg division, while Hady Hussein and Safa Soliman won bronze in the over-100kg and over-78kg categories respectively.

Gymnastics accounted for three medals – one silver and two bronze. Omar El-Shabaki won silver on the pommel horse. Omar El-Araby claimed bronze on the rings and another bronze in the individual all-around.

Egypt’s swimming team won three medals, including one gold and two bronze. Abdelrahman Sameh took gold in the 50m butterfly, with Farida Osman winning bronze in the same event. Youssef Ramadan claimed bronze in the 100m butterfly.

Handball and athletics

Egyptian boxing added two medals. Nabila Alaa El-Din won silver in the 75kg category, while Mohamed Hossam Abdelmonem took bronze in the under-90kg division.

The Egypt men’s handball team won gold after beating Greece 31-29 in the final. The victory completed a perfect record for the Egyptian side throughout the competition.

Mohamed Magdy Hamza added Egypt’s final athletics medal with bronze in the shot put. His throw of 20.21m placed him third.
