Egypt FA renew contract of coach Hossam Hassan until 2030 after history World Cup run

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has announced the extension of head coach Hossam Hassan’s contract following the Pharaohs’ historic campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Hassan took charge of the Egyptian national team in February 2024, succeeding Portuguese coach Rui Vitória. Since his appointment, the former Egypt international has overseen a period of steady progress with the national side and has now been rewarded with a new long-term contract.

Under Hassan, Egypt made history at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Pharaohs recorded their first-ever victory in the history of the World Cup before progressing to the round of 16.

The achievement represented a significant milestone for Egyptian football and strengthened the EFA’s confidence in Hassan’s leadership. Despite facing strong opposition at the tournament, Egypt showed considerable improvement and competitiveness on the world stage.

Following the conclusion of the World Cup campaign, the EFA decided to extend Hassan’s contract until 2030, keeping him in charge of the national team for the next major international cycle.

The new deal will see the 60-year-old coach oversee Egypt’s preparations and qualifying campaigns for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Hassan will therefore be tasked with maintaining Egypt’s momentum and building on their World Cup success as the Pharaohs target further progress in African and international football.

The former striker, who remains one of Egypt’s most celebrated football figures, will now have the opportunity to establish greater continuity within the national team and guide a new generation of players alongside established stars such as Mohamed Salah.

The EFA’s decision also reflects its desire for stability ahead of two major tournaments, with Hassan expected to lead Egypt through the qualification stages and, potentially, into the finals of both competitions.
