Egypt drawn in Group B for FIBA U18 Women’s AfroBasket in Cote d’Ivoire

Egypt’s women’s under-18 basketball team have been placed in Group B for the FIBA U18 Women’s AfroBasket, which will be held in Cote d’Ivoire from 5 to 16 August.

The draw has placed Egypt alongside Mali, Morocco and Benin in a group featuring four national teams. A total of 12 countries will compete in the tournament.

Egypt qualified after winning the Zone 5 qualifying tournament, which was recently staged at Cairo International Stadium. The result secured the team’s place in the continental under-18 competition.

The Egyptian squad consists of 12 players: Gory Nizar, Malak El Azab, Sidra Shalaby, Hania Nasser, Yasmeen El Gamal, Fatma Mohamed, Mariam Hazem, Malak El Hamly, Hana El Baz, Layla Hossam, Zeina Halim and Sidra Haitham.

The tournament will begin with a single round-robin group phase. The teams will be divided across three groups, with each side playing the other teams in its group once.

The eight highest-ranked teams at the end of the group stage will progress to the quarter-finals. The three group winners will be ranked from first to third, while the teams finishing second in each group will be placed from fourth to sixth.

The two best third-placed teams will complete the quarter-final line-up, taking seventh and eighth positions. Rankings will be determined by the number of wins and points difference.

The quarter-final pairings will then be decided according to those overall standings. The team ranked first will face the team ranked eighth, while the second-placed side will meet the team ranked seventh.

The remaining matches will see the third-ranked team play the sixth-ranked team, with the side in fourth place taking on the team ranked fifth.

Egypt enter the competition after their success in the Zone 5 qualifiers and will compete in Group B alongside Mali, Morocco and Benin. The tournament in Cote d’Ivoire will bring together 12 national teams, with the group-stage results determining which eight sides reach the knockout phase.
