Mohammed Salah advised against MLS move

Ibrahim Hassan, the director of the Egytina national team has warned Mohamed Salah to carefully consider his next move, warning that a switch to Major League Soccer could diminish his global profile after his expected departure from Liverpool FC.

Speaking to On Sports, as reported by Al Jazeera, Hassan made it clear that he believes Salah should continue his career in Europe if he wants to maintain his status among the world’s elite.

“Personally, I would prefer him to stay in Europe,” Hassan said, pointing to reported interest from top clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain, FC Bayern Munich, and several Italian sides.

The Egyptian official went further, cautioning against a move to the MLS, suggesting that it could significantly reduce Salah’s visibility on the global stage.

“A move to the Major League? He would be far too out of the spotlight,” Hassan warned. “You won’t remember Salah any more than I remember Lionel Messi now; I don’t even try to watch him.”

The comments underline a broader debate surrounding the career paths of ageing superstars and where they choose to continue their playing days. While leagues like the MLS offer lifestyle appeal and a growing platform, Hassan believes that competitive intensity and global relevance are best maintained in Europe.

However, he acknowledged that if European offers do not materialize, a move to Saudi Arabia could be a strong alternative, especially with the presence of global icons such as Cristiano Ronaldo, who has already elevated the league’s profile.

“If he does not receive offers from Europe, then a move to the Saudi league would be a good option,” he added.

For Salah, the decision ahead is more than just a transfer—it is a defining moment that could shape the final chapter of his illustrious career.
