Egypt defender Ahmed Magdy joins Petrol Asyut from Zamalek on free transfer

Egyptian centre-back Ahmed Magdy has joined Petrol Asyut from Zamalek on a free transfer, completing a move between two clubs in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old defender joined Petrol Asyut on 9 August 2026 and has agreed a contract running until 30 June 2029. The move takes Magdy to a new club after his time with Zamalek, where he was registered during the 2025-26 campaign.

Magdy’s arrival gives Petrol Asyut a young Egyptian centre-back with recent experience at one of the country’s leading clubs. He is listed as a defender whose main position is centre-back, and will continue his career in the same league after leaving Zamalek.

His previous club won the Egyptian championship in the 2025-26 season, with Magdy recorded as an Egyptian champion during that campaign. That honour is the first listed achievement of his senior career.

The transfer was completed without a fee, with Magdy moving directly from Zamalek to Petrol Asyut. His new agreement keeps him at Petrol Asyut for the next three seasons, subject to the contract’s stated expiry date in June 2029.

Magdy, born on 1 January 2005, remains at the beginning of his senior career. His move provides a clear change of club while keeping him in Egypt’s top-flight competition, and his contract length establishes Petrol Asyut as his club through the end of the 2028-29 season.

Zamalek and Petrol Asyut are both listed in the Premier League, meaning the defender’s switch does not involve a move abroad or a change of competition. Instead, the transfer marks a domestic change for the Egypt international setup-listed player as he begins a new spell with Petrol Asyut.

The deal was dated 9 August 2026, and Magdy’s contract with Petrol Asyut runs until 30 June 2029.
