Egypt Cup last-32 round to replace Egyptian Super Cup dates in November

The Egyptian Football Association has settled on staging the Egypt Cup last-32 ties and the second round of the Egypt Capital Cup during the first eight days of November.

The decision follows difficulties in arranging the Egyptian Super Cup, which had originally been scheduled for 1 to 8 November. The season calendar had allowed for the eighth round of the league to be completed by 30 October before the Super Cup was played.

According to information obtained by FilGoal.com, the Egyptian Football Association is working with the Clubs Association to arrange the second round of the Egypt Capital Cup alongside the Egypt Cup last-32 matches.

The United Arab Emirates Football Association apologised several months ago for being unable to host the Egyptian Super Cup. However, the decision is not final and the UAE remains a possible venue for the competition.

The Egyptian Football Association has no plans to abandon the current four-team format and return to a final between the league champions and Egypt Cup winners, as was the case previously.

The Egyptian Super Cup has been held only in Egypt and the UAE since it was introduced in the 2001-02 season. The UAE has hosted nine previous editions, including the most recent five in succession.

The last three editions have featured four teams: the winners of the league, Egypt Cup and Egypt Capital Cup, together with a fourth side selected through a golden-card invitation.

For the 2026 edition, Zamalek will take part as league champions, while Pyramids FC will represent the Egypt Cup and Al Masry will enter as winners of the League Cup. No fourth team has been invited through the golden-card system.

Al Ahly are the holders of the Egyptian Super Cup after winning last season’s tournament in the UAE. They beat Zamalek 2-0 in the final in Abu Dhabi, with Ceramica Cleopatra finishing third and Pyramids FC fourth.

The victory gave Al Ahly their 16th Egyptian Super Cup title, with eight of those triumphs coming against Zamalek. It was also their fifth consecutive success in the competition.

Al Ahly have won all three editions of the Egyptian Super Cup since the competition adopted its new four-team format.
