Egypt crash out of Arab Cup after heavy Jordan defeat

Egypt’s second-string national team suffered a painful exit from the 2025 Arab Cup in Qatar, losing 3-0 to Jordan in the final round of Group C on Tuesday.

Jordan took control early and never let go, while Egypt’s hopes faded with every goal.

Mohammad Abu Hasheesh opened the scoring in the 19th minute, reacting sharply to turn a deflected effort off Mahmoud Al Wensh past goalkeeper Mohamed Bassam. Just before the break, winger Mohammad Abu Zreik “Sharara” doubled the lead with a precise strike from the left side that nestled into the net.

In the second half, Egypt pushed forward and created chances through headers from Hossam Hassan and a powerful strike from Marwan Hamdi that hit the post, but Jordan’s defence and goalkeeper Nour Bani Atieh stood firm. Jordan even had a third goal by Odai Al Fakhouri ruled out by VAR after a foul in the build-up.

Deep in stoppage time, substitute Ali Alwan sealed the win from the penalty spot after a foul on Yassin Marai, making it 3-0. Jordan, under Moroccan coach Jamal Sellami, finished the group with nine points, while Helmi Toulan’s Egypt side bowed out in third place with just two points and their heaviest defeat in Arab Cup history.
