The Egyptian Football Association is reportedly is considering bidding for the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations hosting right.

Currently, the continental showpiece is being held in Morocco, with Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania set to co-host the 2027 edition for the first time in history.

With AFCON set to be run every four years after the 2027 edition, Egypt, another North African country is said to be considering a bid for the hosting right in 2028.

A source close to the Egyptian FA reveals that there are discussions to study the possibility of Egypt submitting a request to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to host the AFCON in 2028.

Motsepe held a meeting with the 54 African nations, in the presence of FIFA President Gianni Infantino, on the sidelines of the African Nations Championship.

Motsepe announced the launch of the African Nations League tournament every year, with the first edition to be held after the 2029 Club World Cup.

Besides, he outlined the bidding process for hosting the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations has been opened, with the tournament to be held every 4 years thereafter instead of every 2 years as is the case in Europe and South America.

The last time Egypt hosted the Africa Cup of Nations was in the 2019 edition. Meanwhile, the North African country has hosted the tournament on five occasions, 1959, 1974 , 1986 , 2006 , and 2019.
