Hossam Hassan names squad for AFCON qualifiers

Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan has announced his squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers this month.

The AFCON qualifiers will take centre stage during the upcoming FIFA international window, with Egypt set to begin their campaign with two crucial Group-stage fixtures.

The Pharaohs will kick off their qualifying campaign against Angola on September 25 before facing South Sudan four days later on September 29 in their second qualifying fixture.

Egypt will then round off the international window with a friendly against South Africa on October 4 as head coach Hossam Hassan continues preparations for the team’s upcoming competitive assignments.

For the three fixtures, Hassan has named a 24-man squad featuring a blend of experienced players and emerging talents.

The squad comprises four goalkeepers, eight defenders, ten midfielders and two forwards, with Hassan handing opportunities to players who will be expected to play important roles during the international window.

Egypt will be aiming to make a strong start against Angola before travelling to face South Sudan, with the results of the opening two matches potentially setting the tone for their qualifying campaign.

The friendly against South Africa will then provide Hassan with another opportunity to assess his squad and fine-tune his plans beyond the AFCON qualifiers.
