Newly appointed Zamalek SC head coach Ayman El Ramadi has expressed deep pride and enthusiasm as he prepares to lead the team for the first time against Ceramica Cleopatra in Friday’s Premier League play-off fixture.

The Egyptian manager, who officially took charge on Wednesday, succeeds José Peseiro, whose tenure ended by mutual consent following a string of disappointing results.

El Ramadi, 60, now steps into one of Egyptian football’s most scrutinised roles, with expectations high despite the club’s recent struggles.

Speaking during his unveiling press conference, El Ramadi did not hide his admiration for the historic stature of his new employers.

“I am proud to collaborate with Zamalek Club, one of the greatest clubs in the Middle East. Its history speaks volumes, and it still operates according to the principles of a school of art and engineering,” he said.

His debut comes with added narrative, as the White Knights prepare to face Ceramica Cleopatra, the very club El Ramadi once managed.

The meeting in the fifth round of the league play-offs adds further intrigue to what already promises to be a testing start for the veteran coach.

El Ramadi’s appointment marks a return to domestic management after years of experience both in Egypt and abroad.

His immediate task will be to stabilise a squad currently grappling with injuries and inconsistent performances, and to instil confidence ahead of what many view as a must-win encounter.

The timing of the managerial change is crucial, with Zamalek navigating a demanding fixture list and struggling to find rhythm.

With several key players sidelined—including Mahmoud Jihad, Ahmed Fatouh, and Hamza Mathlouthi—El Ramadi faces a depleted squad and limited preparation time before Friday’s match.

However, his track record of steady leadership and tactical discipline is expected to bring a sense of calm to the Zamalek camp, which has endured months of turbulence on and off the pitch.

His first outing at the helm is set to kick off at 2:00 p.m. GMT at Cleopatra’s home ground.

Supporters will be watching closely to see how El Ramadi’s philosophy begins to take shape, and whether his admiration for the club can quickly translate into improved results.

For Zamalek, a positive result under new leadership could prove the turning point in a season that has so far failed to meet expectations.
