Egypt and Burkina Faso in heated kit standoff before crucial qualifier

Tension is rising between Egypt and Burkina Faso ahead of their World Cup qualifying clash tomorrow in Round 8 of Group A, and it has nothing to do with football tactics.

Instead, a kit dispute has taken center stage, adding friction before kickoff.

The Pharaohs plan to wear their traditional red shirts with black shorts, while Burkina Faso will line up in white. Both goalkeepers were also set, with Egypt’s in full green and Burkina Faso’s in full black. Trouble started when the Burkinabe federation requested that their goalkeeper be allowed black shorts, which immediately created a clash with Egypt’s outfit.

Ghanaian match observer Adam Mkila stepped in and asked Egypt to switch from black shorts, but Egyptian officials stood firm. They explained no third kit was available and stressed that regulations did not make a change compulsory.

Burkina Faso’s statement highlighted that both sides use the same clothing supplier and argued that FIFA rules require the visiting team to adjust when conflicts occur. With no solution in sight, the kit row threatens to overshadow the football itself.
