England-born forward of Ghanaian descent, Eddie Nketiah, found the net in Crystal Palace’s 3-2 loss to Arsenal on Wednesday night in the EFL Cup quarter-finals.
Although Nketiah was named to the matchday squad, he started on the bench and replaced Jean-Philippe Mateta in the second half. Once on the field, Nketiah showed his quality by scoring one of two consolation goals for Palace.
The match began with an early lead for Palace in the 4th minute, as a defensive error allowed Mateta to roll the ball into the net, making it 1-0.
Arsenal quickly responded in the second half, with Gabriel Jesus scoring twice in the 54th and 73rd minutes to give the Gunners a 2-1 lead. A third goal came in the 81st minute when Jesus completed his brace with a close-range shot.
In the 85th minute, Nketiah capitalized on a lofted pass into the box from Nathaniel Clyne, heading the ball past Arsenal’s goalkeeper David Raya to reduce the deficit to 3-2.
Despite Nketiah’s effort, Arsenal held on to secure their place in the EFL Cup semi-finals.
