Edward Chilufya completes Hapoel Jerusalem move in search of regular football
Zambia international Edward Chilufya has completed a loan move from FC Midtjylland to Hapoel Jerusalem, with the 26-year-old striker set to remain with the Israeli club until the end of the season.
The move gives Chilufya an opportunity to play more regularly after competition for attacking positions at Midtjylland limited his opportunities in recent seasons.
Chilufya joined the Danish club in 2022 after leaving Swedish side Djurgården. Since arriving in Denmark, he has gradually seen his playing time decrease as competition for places in the attacking positions became increasingly strong.
Despite those challenges, the Zambia international has continued to make an impact when given the opportunity.
He has made 115 appearances for Midtjylland, scoring 13 goals and providing 11 assists during his time with the club.
The decision to send Chilufya out on loan is aimed at giving him the chance to regain regular playing time and continue his development in a different environment.
Hapoel Jerusalem will provide the striker with a new challenge in Israel, where he will spend the remainder of the campaign.
Midtjylland’s management believes the temporary move can benefit both the player and his career, particularly as he looks for more opportunities to play.
Sporting director Kristian Bach Bak explained the club’s thinking behind the deal.
“We think this loan is a good opportunity for him in his quest for more playing time ,” explained sporting director Kristian Bach Bak.
Chilufya’s departure from Midtjylland comes after four years with the Danish side, where he established himself as a useful attacking option despite facing increasing competition.
His record of 13 goals and 11 assists in 115 appearances demonstrates the contribution he has made whenever opportunities have come his way.
The move to Hapoel Jerusalem now gives him the chance to take on a fresh challenge and potentially secure the regular minutes that have become harder to find at Midtjylland.
At 26, Chilufya will be looking to make the most of his time in Israel and return to his best form through consistent involvement on the pitch.
For Hapoel Jerusalem, the arrival of the Zambia international adds an experienced attacking player to their squad for the remainder of the season.
For Chilufya, meanwhile, the priority will be to establish himself quickly and use the loan spell to regain a more prominent role.
His spell at Hapoel Jerusalem is scheduled to run until the end of the season, when Midtjylland will assess his situation again.
For now, the Zambian forward can focus on his new challenge in Israel and the opportunity to play more regularly.
