Galician club determined to keep Moroccan striker despite growing transfer interest

Deportivo La Coruña have rejected an opening offer from Sporting Gijón for Moroccan striker Zakaria Eddahchouri, making it clear they have no intention of allowing one of their key attacking players to leave unless a significantly improved proposal is received.

The Galician club considers the forward an important part of its sporting project and does not believe there is any footballing reason to sanction his departure during the current transfer window.

Although Sporting Gijón have made the first move for the 25-year-old, Deportivo’s position remains unchanged.

Club officials are only prepared to discuss a transfer if an offer guarantees a substantial financial return.

With Eddahchouri under contract until June 2028, the Spanish side remains in a strong negotiating position.

Deportivo stand firm over valuable asset

The decision to reject Sporting Gijón’s initial approach reflects the club’s confidence in the striker’s importance to the squad.

Since arriving at Deportivo, Eddahchouri has established himself as one of the team’s most influential attacking players, and the club is reluctant to weaken its squad ahead of the new campaign.

His long-term contract also gives Deportivo little pressure to negotiate unless their valuation is met.

According to exclusive information, Egyptian club Al Ahly is also monitoring the Moroccan international, adding to the interest surrounding his future.

Despite that attention, Deportivo continues to prioritise retaining one of its leading performers.

Impressive season attracts interest

Sporting Gijón’s pursuit follows an outstanding campaign by Eddahchouri, whose performances significantly increased his reputation.

Across all competitions last season, the Moroccan striker made 39 appearances, scoring 13 goals and contributing six assists.

Those numbers have helped raise his market value to €2.5 million and attracted interest from clubs seeking attacking reinforcements.

His consistent contributions in front of goal have transformed him into one of Deportivo’s most valuable players.

That development explains why the club is determined not to part with him without receiving an offer that reflects both his importance and his growing value.

Career continues upward trajectory

Eddahchouri’s rise has been built on steady progress throughout his career.

The striker developed in the Netherlands, spending time in the youth systems of Feyenoord Rotterdam, Spartaan’20 and Go Ahead Eagles before continuing his senior career with Koninklijke HFC and later Telstar.

His performances in Dutch football earned him a move to Spain.

In January 2025, Deportivo La Coruña invested €300,000 to sign the forward, a transfer that has since proved increasingly valuable as his performances have continued to improve.

The club now believes that investment has been rewarded through his contribution on the pitch and the increase in his market value.

For that reason, Deportivo is unwilling to sell unless presented with an exceptional financial proposal.

Sporting Gijón will therefore need to significantly improve its offer if it hopes to persuade the Galician club to part with one of its most decisive attacking players.
