Ecuador have scheduled a friendly match against Morocco during the next international window, with the fixture set to form part of a two-game European tour in March.
The plan was confirmed by Francisco Egas, president of the Ecuadorian Football Federation, who said his country’s national team will face Morocco as part of its preparations during the upcoming FIFA international break.
The match is scheduled for 27 March at Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano stadium.
The fixture will be the first of two friendlies arranged on European soil. Following the meeting with Morocco in the Spanish capital, Ecuador will travel to the Netherlands to play the Dutch national team on 31 March in Eindhoven.
According to Egas, the Ecuador squad will begin its preparations with a training camp in Madrid ahead of the game against Morocco.
After that match, the players will move directly to the Netherlands for the second friendly, before returning promptly to their respective clubs once the programme has been completed.
The Ecuadorian federation says the structure of the tour has been carefully planned to balance preparation and player welfare.
By grouping both matches in Europe and limiting unnecessary travel, officials hope to reduce physical strain on the squad while ensuring the team benefits fully from the international window.
The two fixtures are intended to give Ecuador competitive tests against high-level opposition, as the national side continues its broader preparation programme.
Facing Morocco, one of Africa’s leading teams, followed by a meeting with the Netherlands, is seen as a valuable opportunity to assess the squad in demanding conditions.
While Ecuador have outlined their plans in detail, there has so far been no official confirmation from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation regarding its own schedule for the March international break.
The Moroccan federation has yet to publish announcements relating to the national team’s preparation programme for upcoming competitions, including the 2026 World Cup.
As a result, the proposed friendly remains subject to formal confirmation from the Moroccan side.
Nevertheless, the statement from Ecuador’s football authorities suggests advanced planning is already in place.
If the match goes ahead as scheduled, Madrid will host an international friendly bringing together teams from two different continents, offering both sides a chance to fine-tune their squads and test tactical options ahead of future competitive commitments.
