Ebrima Colley delivered a standout performance for Young Boys in their Swiss Championship match against Winterthur, showcasing his playmaking abilities with a crucial assist that helped secure a 2-0 victory.
The match, held at the Stade de Suisse, saw Young Boys dominate from the outset. However, it wasn’t until the second half that the breakthrough came.
The scoring opened with a goal from team captain Fabian Lustenberger in the 50th minute. The momentum continued to build, and just 19 minutes later, Algerian defender Jaouen Hadjam doubled the lead.
This pivotal goal came courtesy of a perfectly timed assist from Colley, underscoring his significant contribution to the team’s attacking prowess.
This assist marks Colley’s fourth of the season in the league. The 24-year-old Gambian forward has also netted three goals in his 24 appearances out of a possible 38 matches this season.
Colley’s impressive form has been instrumental in Young Boys’ successful campaign, culminating in clinching the Swiss Championship title.
Colley’s time at Young Boys has been on a loan spell from Italian Serie A club Atalanta Bergamo, where he remains under contract until June 2025.
His successful stint in Switzerland has highlighted his development and value as a versatile attacker capable of influencing games both through scoring and creating opportunities for his teammates.
Reflecting on his season, Colley expressed satisfaction with his contributions and the overall success of the team.
“It’s been a great season for me personally and for the team. Winning the championship with Young Boys has been a fantastic experience, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to develop my game here,” he said.
As the season draws to a close, Colley will return to Atalanta, but his impressive performances in Switzerland have certainly enhanced his reputation and could open up further opportunities either in Serie A or another top European league.
Young Boys, having benefited from his skills, will undoubtedly miss his presence on the pitch but can take pride in the role he played in their triumphant season.
The win against Winterthur not only solidified Young Boys’ dominance in the league but also highlighted the depth and talent within their squad, with players like Colley stepping up at crucial moments to ensure the team’s success.
