East Africa ready to deliver historic AFCON 2027 – FKF boss Hussein Mohammed

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Hussein Mohammed has expressed strong confidence that East Africa will successfully stage the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, insisting the region is prepared to deliver an edition that will leave a lasting mark on the continent.

Speaking during a meeting with CAF president Patrice Motsepe, Mohammed praised the collective efforts of the co-host nations and underlined the region’s readiness both on and off the pitch.

“I have no doubt East Africa is ready and will deliver the best AFCON the continent and the world has ever seen,” Mohammed said, as quoted by Pulse Sports.

He was quick to dismiss comparisons with other bidders or host nations, stressing that East Africa’s identity and approach to tournament delivery stands on its own.

“We do not intend to compete with Morocco as the Minister has alluded to. We are unique in East Africa and we will deliver a unique AFCON that has never been seen,” he added.

Mohammed emphasised that preparations go beyond physical infrastructure, pointing to what he described as the region’s social and cultural strengths, particularly hospitality and work ethic.

“In this regard, it is not just the hardware, being the facilities and stadiums but also the software. East Africa is known for its hospitality, we are known to be a hardworking population and we are known for delivering quality and we experienced that with CHAN.”

His remarks come at a time when CAF has been closely monitoring progress across the three host nations, with increased focus on stadium readiness and broader tournament logistics ahead of the expanded continental showpiece.

CAF president Motsepe, according to Mohammed, has been encouraged by the pace of development and engagement from the East African bloc, known as Pamoja.

“Motsepe commended the significant progress made by the three host nations and expressed confidence that Pamoja AFCON 2027 will be a resounding success.”

The 2027 tournament will carry additional historical significance, marking the 70th anniversary of the Africa Cup of Nations.

It will also be the final edition staged in an odd-numbered year before CAF transitions the competition to a quadrennial cycle from 2028 onwards, a shift announced in December 2025.

With preparations intensifying, attention is now fixed on whether East Africa can translate optimism and political backing into a seamless, globally competitive tournament.
