Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has dismissed speculation linking him with a move to Bayern Munich, stating he is fully focused on his club and international duties ahead of the new season.
The Dutch international, who has Togolese roots through his father, has been the subject of transfer talk since the end of Liverpool’s title-winning Premier League campaign.
Reports in Germany had suggested Bayern were monitoring the 25-year-old, but Gakpo has moved to quash such rumours.
Speaking from the Netherlands’ training base on Friday, Gakpo said, “I haven’t heard anything about it myself. I’m closing myself off from it. Maybe my agent has heard something, but I’m focusing on myself.”
Gakpo, who joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023, has become a key figure in the club’s attacking setup. His versatility across the front line and growing influence have seen him gain admiration both domestically and abroad.
However, Liverpool are keen to keep their squad intact as they move into a new era following Jürgen Klopp’s departure.
The forward also spoke positively about compatriot Jeremie Frimpong’s move to Anfield, following the right-back’s transfer from Bayer Leverkusen.
“For us, Jeremie is a very good addition,” Gakpo noted. “With his speed and quality. But also because of his position, because Trent (Alexander-Arnold) left us.”
Alexander-Arnold’s departure earlier this summer left a significant gap in Liverpool’s defence, and Frimpong is expected to fill that void.
