Liverpool have secured the services of forward Cody Gakpo for the long term after the Dutch-Togolese star signed a contract that ties him to Anfield until 2028.
Gakpo, who has Togolese heritage through his father, has quickly grown into one of Liverpool’s most reliable performers.
First brought in by Jurgen Klopp, the versatile attacker has flourished under current manager Arne Slot, becoming a cornerstone of his tactical setup.
The club confirmed the news in a statement issued on Saturday following the signing ceremony at the AXA Training Centre.
“Cody Gakpo has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool FC. The forward ensured he will extend his two-and-a-half-year association with the Reds into the future by putting pen to paper,” it read.
Since moving to England, Gakpo has made 131 appearances for Liverpool, finding the net 42 times and setting up 16 goals for his teammates.
His consistency proved crucial in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup triumph during the 2023/24 campaign and again last season, when he played an important role in the Reds’ record-equalling 20th league title win.
The 26-year-old said he was delighted to prolong his stay, highlighting both his family’s comfort in Merseyside and the positive atmosphere within the squad.
“It feels amazing to extend the contract here at this beautiful club. I’m very grateful and hopefully I can give back many more beautiful moments,” Gakpo stated.
“I feel at home, my family feels at home and that’s also a big decision always. They feel good. I’m very happy at the club, a good group, good teammates, so the life around the football itself is very good and I enjoy every moment of it. I’m very grateful that I can extend.”
With Gakpo now secured, Liverpool strengthen their attacking options as Slot continues shaping a team built for sustained success.
