Dutch-born winger Ernest Poku, who is of Ghanaian descent, has finalized a transfer to Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen.
Poku has signed a five-year deal with the German top-flight club, making the move from Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar during the ongoing summer transfer window.
Having progressed through AZ’s youth academy since 2019, Poku was a key member of the squad that clinched the UEFA Youth League title in 2023.
During his spell with AZ’s senior team, the skillful forward contributed directly to 20 goals across all competitions—scoring six times and assisting 14, including three assists in European fixtures.
He played his final match for AZ in their convincing 4-1 victory over Groningen on the opening weekend of the Dutch league season.
At Bayer Leverkusen, Poku aims to continue his upward trajectory and develop further as a player.
Though he has represented the Netherlands at youth level, Poku remains eligible to feature for Ghana at the senior international stage.
