Dutch-Ghanaian defender Jeremie Frimpong set for another injury spell
Dutch international of Ghanaian descent Jeremie Frimpong has suffered a fresh injury setback following his involvement in Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Brentford at the weekend.
Frimpong featured as Liverpool secured a 2-1 away victory over Brentford in the seventh round of the English top flight, but his appearance was cut short after he picked up an injury shortly after coming on.
The 25-year-old defender was introduced at the beginning of the second half as Liverpool looked to maintain their advantage against the Bees. However, he was forced off in the 52nd minute, raising concerns about his fitness and availability for the club’s upcoming fixtures.
The latest setback comes as a blow to Frimpong, who has been working to establish himself in Liverpool’s setup following his move from Bayer Leverkusen. His pace, attacking ability and versatility make him an important option, particularly in wide areas, where he can contribute both defensively and offensively.
Providing an update on the defender’s condition, Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola confirmed that Frimpong had sustained a new injury and would need time to recover. The manager also admitted that it could be difficult for the Dutch international to return before the upcoming international break.
“Jeremie is a new injury and we will have to wait until he recovers. It’s going to be difficult before the break, but we will try,” he said.
Although the full extent of the injury has not yet been established, the comments suggest that Frimpong faces a race against time to regain fitness before the break. Further assessment will be required to determine the nature of the problem and how long he could remain on the sidelines.
Frimpong’s potential absence would be an unwanted setback for Liverpool as they seek to maintain their momentum in the Premier League and other competitions. His attacking contributions from the right flank provide an additional dimension to the team’s play, making his availability important as the season progresses.
The 25-year-old has made eight appearances across competitions for Liverpool this season, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
Liverpool will now hope the injury is not serious and that the defender can return to action without an extended spell on the sidelines.
