Dutch football legend Jaap Stam has tipped Egyptian outfit Al Ahly to go through the group stage at the FIFA Club World Cup tournament.
Al Ahly has already arrived in the USA for the much-anticipated tournament, which features 32 teams across the globe.
The Egyptian powerhouse has been paired in Group A against Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami, FC Porto, and Palmeiras. They will play the opening match of the World Cup against Inter Miami on Sunday, June 15.
“Al-Ahly’s group in the Club World Cup is difficult, but the key point is that all of these teams, with the exception of Inter Miami, have completed their domestic leagues and have already played many matches.”
“Therefore, the upcoming matches will be a challenge for the remaining teams, as the season has ended for them. The question is, are they still capable of providing the same level of quality, especially in a different country and under new playing conditions?”
“I think this tournament is very open to all possibilities, and if you look at all the teams and what you can expect from them, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the big-name teams are the ones who will decide things,” he added.
He concluded: “I think the tournament will be completely unpredictable, and it will be very interesting to see where each team ends up. Al Ahly has a good chance of qualifying for the next stage.”
