Dutch-born defender, Jeremie Frimpong has revealed that Michael Essien was his footballing idol growing up.
“I idolized Michael Essien growing up, saw what he did at Chelsea, Real Madrid and the national team,” Frimpong, who has Ghanaian roots, told 3Sports.
He continued, “I also like Christian Atsu and the Ayew brothers, I watched the 2010 World Cup and fell in love with Ghana because the players gave their all.”
Essien, widely regarded as one of the greatest players to ever represent the Black Stars, played a key role in Ghana’s historic qualification for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
He also contributed significantly to the team’s successful campaigns in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, earning 59 caps for his country.
Currently, Frimpong is spending the Christmas holidays in Ghana.
