Durban City assistant coach Musa Nyatama backs ex-Chiefs pair to lift CAF push

Durban City assistant coach Musa Nyatama believes new arrivals Gaston Sirino and Tashreeq Morris will significantly strengthen the club as it prepares for a demanding season that includes a CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

Nyatama, who has only recently joined the Betway Premiership side’s technical team, is working as assistant to a former Kaizer Chiefs coach who has replaced Pitso Dladla at the helm. His appointment has coincided with Durban City’s move to recruit Sirino and Morris from Kaizer Chiefs.

Speaking to Gagasi FM, Nyatama highlighted the experience and quality the attacking duo will bring to the squad, stressing that their influence will be vital as the club attempts to compete on multiple fronts.

“I think with the signings we have made so far, the likes of Sirino and Morris from Kaizer Chiefs,” Nyatama said. “They bring a lot of experience, they will help us but we will still sign one or two in one or two positions where we need to strengthen.”

Depth the priority for congested season

Durban City are preparing for a busy calendar, with domestic commitments in the Betway Premiership and MTN8 combining with their participation in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Nyatama underlined that squad depth would be essential to cope with the volume of fixtures, indicating that further reinforcements are expected before the transfer window closes.

“Like I said, this season we’re going to have many matches [due to CAF Confederation Cup and MTN8],” he added. “So, we need the team to have a depth so that we can be able to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.”

The assistant coach believes Sirino and Morris, together with other recent signings, will ensure Durban City are better equipped to handle the physical and tactical demands of continental football, while also remaining competitive in domestic competitions.

New faces signal fresh start

The arrivals of Nyatama, Sirino and Morris mark a period of transition for Durban City following the change in head coach. The club is aiming to blend its new recruits with the existing squad to create a group capable of sustaining a challenge on all fronts.

While Nyatama did not disclose which specific positions the club is targeting, his comments suggest further activity in the transfer market as Durban City seek to bolster areas identified as lacking depth.

For now, the focus remains on integrating Sirino and Morris and ensuring the squad is ready for the intensity of the upcoming campaign, with the CAF Confederation Cup seen as a key measure of the club’s progress.
