A gala match is scheduled to take place on December 28 with the aim of supporting peace and reconciliation in Mali. The match will feature the Mali national team facing off against international stars, including former African football legends like Patrice Mboma from Cameroon and El Hadj Ousseynou Diouf from Senegal, who are also ambassadors for the event. Other notable figures expected to participate include Zinedine Zidane, Lilian Thuram, Samuel Eto’o, Didier Drogba, and more.
The match is not just a celebration of football but serves as an opportunity to contribute to the dialogue process between different communities in Mali after a period of serious political-military crisis. The president of the organizing committee, Cheick Diakité, highlighted that 80% of the proceeds from the event, taking place at the Stade du 26 Mars, will go to organizations such as the UNHCR, UNICEF, and the Malian Red Cross. These funds will benefit the populations in the northern regions of Mali.
The Maliba association, created by young Malian executives, is behind the initiative, aiming to assist Malian nationals facing difficulties and contribute to the well-being of communities in need.
