Joël Kiassumbua has set his sights on a return to the DR Congo national team after securing a club in Switzerland following a period without one.
The 31-year-old goalkeeper has expressed his desire to reclaim his place in the Leopards squad but remains mindful of the competition that has emerged during his absence.
The experienced shot-stopper, who previously served as DR Congo’s first-choice goalkeeper, has maintained contact with national team coach Sébastien Desabre regarding his potential comeback.
“He is aware of my situation and my fitness. I would like to rejoin the national team, but we have to take it step by step,” Kiassumbua stated.
A More Competitive Goalkeeping Department
While Kiassumbua was once a key figure for the Leopards, his absence has paved the way for others to step up.
Dimitry Bertaud and Lionel Mpasi have gained valuable experience, while Timothy Fayulu has also emerged as a strong contender for the role.
With increased competition for the starting position, Kiassumbua’s return will depend not only on his form but also on his ability to convince Desabre that he remains a viable option in an increasingly competitive goalkeeping department.
