TP Mazembe has officially clinched the 2023-2024 season title, marking their 20th championship victory. This triumph came after Linafoot, the national football league, awarded the club a victory following a forfeiture by Lubumbashi Sport. The Kamikazes faced sanctions for the irregular use of player Shaibu Abdalla.
Initially, TP Mazembe was held to a 0-0 draw against Lubumbashi Sport. However, the Ravens lodged a complaint regarding Abdalla’s eligibility.
After thorough investigation, Linafoot ruled in favor of TP Mazembe, granting them the win by default.
“Linafoot has just inflicted a forfeit on Lubumbashi Sport, moving TPM to 34 points.
The complaint by TPM administration about the irregularity of Shaibu Abdalla has been proven and validated,” the club announced on social media.
With this decision, TP Mazembe gains an additional two points, bringing their total to 34, thus securing their position at the top of the league standings.
This lead makes it impossible for Maniema Union to catch up, irrespective of the outcomes on the final matchday.
Consequently, TP Mazembe celebrates their 20th league title, a testament to their dominance in Congolese football.
On the other hand, FC Les Aigles du Congo does not benefit from the decision against Lubumbashi Sport.
Despite the forfeiture, Les Aigles du Congo’s points remain unchanged, and they are unable to surpass FC Lupopo, who have secured qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup.
This season’s victory adds to TP Mazembe’s illustrious history, solidifying their status as one of the most successful clubs in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
