TP Mazembe has been officially crowned the Division 1 champion for the 2013 season in the Congolese (DRC) football championship. The announcement was ratified by Linafoot after the completion of 13 matchdays, concluding the first phase of the competition.
TP Mazembe, based in Lubumbashi, secured the championship with impressive statistics, being the best attack with 38 goals scored and the best defense with only 4 goals conceded. The team, led by President Moïse Katumbi, accumulated a total of 35 points, finishing ahead of V. Club of Kinshasa in second place with 32 points. Both TP Mazembe and V. Club have qualified for the next CAF Champions League.
In contrast, Elima, a club based in Matadi, finished at the bottom of the table in 14th place with zero points. The club faced sanctions from the League for fielding an unqualified player, leading to their relegation to the lower division. Other relegated teams include Molunge from Mbandaka (12th with 9 points) and Virunga from Goma (13th with 9 points).
The conclusion of the Congolese football championship marked TP Mazembe’s success as champions, while Elima and others face relegation due to the points system and disciplinary issues.
