Brentford striker Yoane Wissa has intensified speculation over his future at the club after a series of telling social media changes, with Newcastle United believed to be tracking his situation closely.
The 28-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to St James’ Park and is reportedly eager to make the switch.
Wissa has unfollowed Brentford’s official accounts, deleted all references to the Bees from his platforms, and replaced his Instagram profile picture with a black image — a move widely interpreted as a sign of discontent with his current employers.
Newcastle view the Congolese international as a potential replacement for Alexander Isak, who is currently embroiled in his own standoff as he pushes for a high-profile transfer to Premier League champions Liverpool.
Wissa’s availability has therefore become a key storyline in the early stages of the transfer window.
The striker was notably absent from Brentford’s squad in their opening league fixture, a 3-1 defeat away to Nottingham Forest.
His omission only served to deepen questions around his future, especially as the Bees embark on their first campaign under new manager Keith Andrews.
Speaking after the game, Andrews offered a cautious update on the situation. “It is what it is. It’s an ongoing issue. Ideally Wissa would have been available today and unless anything has happened in the last few hours then it’s the same things,” he said.
“Hopefully it can resolve itself sooner rather than later. We’re always looking and there’s a clear plan at the club — if a player leaves then we’ll look.”
Wissa has been a reliable figure for Brentford since arriving in 2021, scoring crucial goals in both league and cup competitions. Whether he remains part of their long-term project, however, now appears uncertain as Newcastle circle with intent.
