DR Congo is on the verge of making football and marketing history with a major partnership deal involving Spanish giants Barcelona.
According to Diario Sport, Barcelona is close to securing a €40 million agreement with the Democratic Republic of Congo. The deal, described as one of the most unique in recent years, will see DR Congo’s tourism brand featured prominently on Barcelona jerseys. The slogan “DRC, heart of Africa” will be displayed, marking the country’s bold entry into global football promotion.
This initiative mirrors similar campaigns by countries like Rwanda, whose “Visit Rwanda” message appears on kits worn by Arsenal, PSG, and Atletico Madrid.
A key step toward finalizing the deal came on May 19, when DR Congo’s Prime Minister, Didier Budimbu, travelled to Barcelona to meet with the club’s top officials. Talks focused on long-term marketing goals, tourism strategy, and deepening ties between the African nation and the world-renowned club.
If finalized, this partnership will not only boost Barcelona financially but also position DR Congo on the global tourism map in a powerful way.
