Chancel Mbemba has issued a heartfelt farewell to Olympique de Marseille, marking the end of a three-year stint with the French club as his contract reaches its final hours.
Frozen out by the club’s management, the DR Congo international endured a season without a single appearance at club level, only featuring during international breaks.
Despite this difficult end, Mbemba chose to part ways with grace, sharing a long and emotional message with fans via his social media accounts.
“All stories find their conclusion, and sometimes, this one is not the one we had imagined,” Mbemba wrote. “These three seasons with Olympique de Marseille will remain etched in my memory, and I will remember the best: the electrifying atmosphere of the Vélodrome, exceptional supporters and a city that vibrates to the rhythm of the matches.”
Mbemba, who made 85 appearances and scored 13 goals for the club, expressed deep appreciation for the time he spent wearing the Marseille shirt.
His message reflected fondness, not frustration, even after a campaign where he was sidelined completely.
Showing no sign of bitterness, the 30-year-old defender thanked Marseille president Pablo Longoria, the entire club staff, and his teammates for their support throughout his time in southern France.
“A special thank you to all those who supported and encouraged me during this last difficult season: to the supporters I met in the street, always ready to share a word of encouragement, and to the Congolese people whose unwavering support carried me through the difficult times,” he added.
Mbemba, who turns 31 in August, now looks set to explore new horizons.
Reports suggest a possible move to Paris FC, a development that could see him return to the Vélodrome as early as the weekend of August 24, this time in opposition colours.
His message concluded with a poignant sign-off: “It is time to close this chapter and fly to new destinations. Thank you for everything, Marseille baby!”
Though his final season lacked the closure players typically hope for, Mbemba’s dignified farewell has resonated with fans, many of whom responded to his message with appreciation and admiration for his professionalism and commitment throughout his tenure at the club.
