Afimico Pululu has been cleared to represent the Democratic Republic of Congo after completing the administrative process to switch his international allegiance.
The striker is now eligible to wear the colours of the Leopards, bringing an end to a period of uncertainty over his international future.
Although he had the option of playing for Angola, Pululu has chosen to commit to DR Congo, a decision that strengthens the squad as it looks ahead to the decisive stages of qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
Pululu had already been included in a previous call-up, but was unable to take part at the time because the necessary paperwork had not been finalised.
With those formalities now completed, he becomes fully available to head coach Sébastien Desabre, who is preparing his team for the challenges that lie ahead, including the possibility of intercontinental play-off matches.
The forward is regarded as a valuable addition because of his physical profile and style of play. Known for his strength and pace, Pululu offers a direct attacking option capable of troubling opposing defences.
His attributes are expected to give Desabre greater flexibility in attack as DR Congo pursue their ambitions on the international stage.
Pululu’s club career has followed a varied path across Europe. He was trained at Swiss side FC Basel, where he developed his foundations before moving to Germany in search of regular first-team football.
However, his time at Greuther Fürth proved challenging, with limited playing opportunities and a season that ended in relegation for the club.
A move to Poland marked a turning point. Since joining Jagiellonia Bialystok, Pululu has found consistency and confidence, establishing himself as a key figure and rediscovering the form that had made him a promising prospect earlier in his career.
His performances there have helped place him back on the international radar and opened the door to his new chapter with DR Congo.
For the Leopards, his arrival comes at a crucial moment. As the qualification campaign for the 2026 World Cup enters a decisive phase, the addition of an in-form forward with experience across several European leagues is seen as a timely boost.
Pululu’s integration into the squad is expected to add competition and depth, particularly in attacking areas where physical presence and speed are vital.
With eligibility now confirmed, attention will turn to how quickly Pululu can adapt to the demands of international football and establish himself within the team.
For both player and country, the decision marks the beginning of a new chapter, shaped by high expectations and the shared aim of reaching the world’s biggest football stage.
