DR Congo FA president Mosengo-Omba says federation must ‘change scale’

DR Congo Football Association (FECOFA) president Véron Mosengo-Omba says the country’s football federation must be fundamentally restructured as part of an ambitious programme to restore its position on the international stage.

Mosengo-Omba said he discussed the FECOFA 2030 programme with Fifa president Gianni Infantino during a meeting at Fifa headquarters.

The programme aims to “refound” the federation, establish sustainable structures and create better conditions for the development of football in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“President Gianni Infantino confirmed to me Fifa’s support for our FECOFA 2030 programme and his willingness to concretely accompany the transformation and development of Congolese football,” Mosengo-Omba said.

He added that the meeting also gave him an opportunity to reaffirm his confidence in Infantino and his support for the Fifa president.

“In times of controversy, one must know how to remain faithful to the facts and convictions,” Mosengo-Omba said.

“I remain convinced of his commitment and his contribution to the development of football, particularly in Africa.”

Mosengo-Omba said the federation’s long-term objective was to build a stronger and more sustainable football system in the country.

“We are moving forward with a simple conviction: Congolese football must change scale,” he said.

“Refound to structure. Structure to win.”

The FECOFA 2030 programme is expected to focus on institutional reform and the development of Congolese football, with Fifa set to provide support for the federation’s transformation plans.
